Ok so I have been a bit of a bad girl in not updating my blog for so long but I have been a very busy girl indeed. By now you will have seen all my hard work on the fantastic new BWS website, lots and lots of hard work has went into. Hopefully you will now find MY website so much easier to navigate, have lots more information and loads more photos. Although I really think there should be more photos of me but mum said I had to give some of the other dogs a chance at the limelight to. Can’t say I’m too happy about that but what can I do… So please take the time to have a good look through the website, I’m sure you will enjoy reading through it.

Well last weekend I went on a trip to Falkirk, as mum had arranged a Cabaret night down that way. They wouldn’t let me in, can you believe it! The Cheek of it, after all everyone came to see me not some bloke dressed as Elvis. So me, Trevor and George had to wait outside while everyone else was inside laughing and dancing. I did get lots of people coming out to tell me how pretty I was, there was also some mention of the “handsome” George and Trevor. They were only saying that so they didn’t feel bad about me getting all the attention. Some people even commented on how big Trevor had got and how well he behaved. Hah! They obviously haven’t seen the big holes in the driveway he has been digging. Then that night we had our two drunken auntie’s stay with us, Kelly and Shona. I’m so embarrassed for them, what a state they were and auntie Kelly spent all night winding Trevor up, none of us could get any sleep.

Mum says her Cabaret night was a huge success with lots of money being raised and with everyone being so generous with giving tombola prizes. We also got two fab boxer cakes and a lovely boxer carving donated for an auction. Then the next day we were at Tesco doing bag packing. Over the whole weekend mum and her volunteers made £2240!

Mum got a sad but lovely phone call from a lady who had just lost her husband. She said they had had boxers all their life and instead of people bringing flowers to the funeral they asked if people could make a donation to Boxer Welfare Scotland instead. Well we were all very touched by this kind gesture at such a difficult time. We are very gratefully to the Brown family for the cheque we received for £3650.

Also need to say a massive thank you to Rhonda who raised £800 for BWS from a party that she had. We had a volunteer that ran a half marathon raising £520, well done Lisa. Carol and her mum have been busy again organising various stalls at craft fares raising lots of money. We were also at the vet school once again raising £514.57. Big thank you to Linda and her team for organising that.

We had another heart-breaking story from Ireland. We were asked if we could help save two boxers from Ireland, a young boy and an old girl. We after a frantic appeal for someone to go across to Ireland to collect them, Linda and Mark made their way across to Ireland to save them. The poor dogs didn’t even have leads, so Mark had to tie his socks to their collars to get them on the ferry. They managed to get both boxers home safely. We named the old girl Linda and the boy Charlie. Sadly it was discovered the next day that Linda had several mammary tumours, a very bad ear, epulis, possibly lung worm, a very bad cough, inverted eyelashes and she had been used as a breeding machine. Despite all this she was a lovely natured girl. In the end we had no choice but to let her go to the bridge. It’s heart breaking when we cannot save them, especially after such a hard life. At least in the end she was with people that cared for her and she will never be forgotten. Charlie is doing well and will hopefully be rehomed some.

Ok so I have rambled on long enough. I promise it won’t be so long in the future between updates but you have to admit I have been a very busy girl. That sounds like Trevor digging holes again I had better go tell mum.

Mum has been really bad, she just would not let me get a pen to write my blog for December. She said Trevor had eaten them all but I have just kept annoying her so here it is…

I was so lucky the nice people at Pets at Home asked if I could be on their Xmas cards this year and of course, not being vain at all, I agreed. WELL mum got a great surprise when they called her and said they wanted to gift £5000 to help all the boxers like me (I am guessing it’s because they could see just how wonderful I am and knew they would sell lots of cards). I had my photo taken with a large dog, he was huge. He did try to steal the limelight but I soon showed him. There was a little baby came along on the day as well, Lola her name was OMG what a fuss people made of her, really dont know why !!!

Mum has been telling me that some really nice people gave homes to boxers like me just lately. This is always nice to hear but she has been sad at the amount that have had come in. I don’t know why because all the boxers that come into Boxer Welfare are really loved and cared for even after they get new mums and dads, all the volunteers and mum just love hearing all the stories. The weather in December was just awful, thank goodness for the nice Mrs S who kindly knits our great coats. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr the snow was so high some days it was up to my belly.

I hope you all had a lovely Xmas like me, and mum said I had to say thank you to everyone who kindly donated toys and coats etc for the babes at the kennels. Well thats another year gone. I know there have been lots of things changing and mum says it’s just getting better all the time. There have been so many new faces and some old ones as well coming back to help which is just great.

Well I better go and annoy George and Trevor, you just can’t trust that boys.

Lots of licks for now Lucy xxxxxx

As you may have noticed there are no photos of me this month and I bet you are extremely disappointed about that. My mum needs to practice more taking pictures with her camera.

A lot of the nice people who help mum wanted to come and see me last week but it snowed and snowed, and no one could make it. I bet they were all so disappointed that they didn’t get a chance to bask in my glory. Still mum has said that we will have a party hopefully in January, so they will get to come and see me then.

Well it will soon be Christmas I am on the BWS Christmas cards you know and I am so gorgeous, George and Trevor have their faces on the cards too but of course mine is really the best one but don’t tell them I said so. Mum has been busy posting cards of me and also our fantastic calendars out all over UK, oh my!!!! Just imagine how many houses I will be in this year how lucky are they.

Mum gave us our advent calendars today wooo hooo! Please remember us doggies need special chocolate, none of your human muck for us ha ha.

I really hope that some nice people will give new homes to the boxers in the kennels just now. I know how sad it makes my mum and all who work at boxer welfare just thinking about them. I just wish Santa could give them a home for Christmas.

But please remember a boxer is for life and not just for Christmas!

I must dash I am sure I just heard Trevor and George playing so I better get in there and show them who’s boss.

Oh before I run off, hope you all have a great Christmas.

Lots of Licks

Wow, I have been very this month and so has everyone else. At the beginning of the month, I got to go to Pets at Home in Inverness to help them with their Support Adoption for Pets week. It was great fun and some silly people dressed up as dogs and wanted their photo taken with me. Of course they did, and I don’t really mind, I am always happy to make sure my photo is taken! Also that same weekend, Jamie Stewart ran the Loch Ness Marathon and raised £1,500! I would loved to have gone with him on the run, but I don’t think he would have been able to keep up with me. Next time, if he takes me, I bet we could raise double as people would be so excited to see me!

Mum said that there was a very busy coffee morning happening in Edinburgh as well this month. I am a little disappointed that I didn’t get to go down. I would have loved to have been able to help them eat all those home made cakes and goodies! They even had home made dog biscuits there! Mum said that they raised a brilliant £963. All that for homemade cakes?! They must have been delicious! Also this month, some lovely ladies in Huntly had a garage sale and they raised £535. Mum said it is also so touching when people we don’t know, raise money for us and she took me over to meet the ladies and to say thank you. Of course they were very happy to see me, but silly Mum thinks they were being nice to her, not me!

As promised in my last blog, the Christmas cards are here!

How stunning do I look! I bet you won’t find another card like that on the market, I really am quite special to look at! Mum also got ones of George and Trevor made up, I don’t know why, but she did insist. Mum says that they have been selling like hot cakes, but I don’t see why she’s surprised, and I bet mine sell out first. Apparently they are on our website if you want to buy some – go on, you know you want to! Just think how happy your friends and family would be to receive a Christmas card with me on it!

So it’s November soon folks and please remember that means fireworks. I hate them, the noise really upsets me and I am wondering how wee Trevor will cope as this will be his first Bonfire Night. Mum says there is something really good to help dogs cope with the noise of fireworks and it’s called DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromones), she said you can get it as a spray or a plug in and that it helps calms us doggies down. So please, on behalf of all dogs, remember to make sure we are safe during Bonfire Night and help keep us stress free. Like I keep everyone around me stress free! Haha

Right well that’s about it for now, Trevor has found a hole in the fence, so I am off to see if I can get my bum through it!

Well I have called this Blog, “September’s Trip Abroad” so I could tell you where I ended up this month!

I suppose the big flag has given it away slightly, but for those of you who don’t know, it was England! Yes, I went over the border for the first time in my life. England wasn’t quite what I was expecting and Newcastle even less so? I thought everyone took coals to Newcastle, so I was expecting huge piles of it and I didn’t see a single lump? I couldn’t understand a word anyone was saying, they speak really funny down there. I still don’t know who this “wye eye mon” was, but he seems very popular because nearly everyone spoke about him? Luckily my confusion didn’t have to last too long as we were only there a few hours before Mum and Dad brought us all safely back into Scotland again. Am not sure when we’ll visit England again, but next time I am hoping Mum and Dad give me a bit more warning, so I can learn their language. After all, English or Scottish, everyone loves me and there’s nothing ruder than nodding politely when you don’t understand someone. I want to be able to understand just how wonderfully gorgeous they think I am!

Every year Mum and BWS make a calendar up to help raise funds for Boxer Welfare Scotland and every year I keep telling them that they should just have 12 months with different photos of me? Surely more people would buy it when they could see me every month, but once again, Mum has used lots of other (very lucky) boxers who have got new homes through BWS. At least they have put the logo on every page, so you will still get to see me. It is a very small photo though and hopefully it won’t put too many people off from buying it. Mum said I had to tell you that you can buy them on the website and that they are only £6.50! That sounds like a bargain to me.

I didn’t realise Christmas was so close! George told me the other day that it was only 12 weeks away, so I really must get my Christmas wish list all sorted. I could tell you I’d be really nice and say I wished all the other boxers could get homes like me? But to be honest, I’ll probably ask for some good treats, lots of toys and a new collar and leave the hard work of finding homes for the other boxers to Mum! Besides, that’s what she is best at (don’t tell her I was nice!) Mum said that we are going to be on the Boxer Welfare Scotland Christmas cards this year! I am very excited, but I just don’t understand what took her so long to think about it. Just think how lucky would you be to get a card with me on it!

Right I am off to have a chat with George about his snoring, a boxer needs her beauty sleep!

August has been such a busy month for me I can tell you. Oh ok and for everyone else, but you aren’t here to read about everyone else are you, you just want to know about me!

As you can see George and Trevor are just as tired, but they will insist on jumping on my seat when I am sleeping, what’s a girl to do?! Mum said that August was one of the busiest months for BWS and that on one weekend over £1,600 was raised! Of course I did my bit and we have been travelling around various car shows showing me off (they think it’s the cars that important, but I beg to differ!) Apparently, the total fundraising for the whole of August was around £2,400! It’s not often I am lost for words but, l that’s just amazing isn’t it? Mum says that we have the best team at Boxer Welfare Scotland and I think she’s right (for once!).

So we got to visit lots of places in August and have been able to say hello to lots of different people. I do try my best to come and speak to everyone, but sometimes Mum has the cheek to leave me in the campervan and claims she is busy! Busy? How can she be too busy to want to show me off, I just don’t understand it.

Our last event was at Banchory and with it being in August, you didn’t really expect the weather to be that bad? I know you shouldn’t expect anything when it comes to our weather but torrential rain and thunderstorms was a little too much, don’t you think? Mum and Auntie Angela got absolutely soaked while we were all nice and dry eating our lunch with Dad and Uncle Mike. We weren’t to know they needed help were we? It was nice and dry in the van.

I am going to tell you a little story now, but you have to promise to keep it to yourself, because I don’t think Mum was too impressed with us. I think it showed ingenuity and a sense of adventure, but Mum and Dad seem to think differently! While we were at the Banchory car show, Mum had decided she was too busy to take me to see everyone. Now I was very concerned that there might be people who wanted to see me, plus I was getting a little bit bored. Well George and I hatched a cunning plan ………….. Needless to say, Mum was a little surprised to see me sitting next to Isla in her campervan when they came back and I got a telling off and we had to go back to our van. But you see the thing is, Mum didn’t think we were really that clever and made the mistake of leaving us alone again! So George and I hatched another plan ……………. who knew flyscreens were that delicate!!

Right, well George and I are off to audition for our upcoming film roles, move over Steve McQueen. Now, where did I leave my teaspoon?

Well July has been a bit quiet really! Far too quiet for my liking, I like to be out and about, partying and meeting lots of people and I am really looking forward to August and September!

We did go on one trip in June when we headed off to Acorn Pets for a microchipping day. I was on my best behaviour, of course, and was the most gorgeous boxer there by far! It was a lovely summer day and lots of people got to meet me, which I know they enjoy!

Mum said this was the first time we had been to Acorn Pets so I had to be really good so we could go back again. I don’t know why she was worried, of course they would want me back – who wouldn’t! Mum let Trevor and George come too and I suppose I have to admit, they were well behaved too. We must have made everyone happy, because Mum said that everyone raised over £500.

We are off to Pets at Home, Aberdeen for another chipping day on 31st July and I can’t wait to catch up with everyone again. My best friends Isla and Chloe always come along and we have lots of fun playing (and being a wee bit naughty!). Isla is another rescue babe like me and just as bouncy as me, even though she’s older. She’s on the BWS calendar for August, so I suppose she’ll be bragging about that. I’ll just have to remind her my face is on EVERY month, ha ha.

Believe it or not, I often think hard about what I can write about in my blog. Sometimes I have to be serious, sometimes sad and sometimes I have very important information to give out to educate and help people understand boxers better, and I think I really need to do that on this blog. Most of you already know about “cute” Trevor, my newest boxer brother who Mum adopted. Well, I have to tell you all the truth and, despite what Mum says, he is not “cute” and is an absolute terror! Look what he did to Mum’s croc! Well you would never get me doing such a naughty thing, I have been an angel since the first day I arrived, a perfect lady I might add. But this Trevor, well he is another story. Poor Dad has to keep hunting around the garden for his car tools and Mum has to keep chasing him off the counter, when she catches him stealing food! (I have to admit, he does pass some goodies on to me sometimes, so I shouldn’t really complain too much!) Here I am being a perfect example of boxer goodness and I am living with an asbo boxer nutcase! But to tell you the truth, none of us would have him any other way!

Well that’s plenty about Trevor, honestly he steals my thunder often enough, without me having to talk about him all over my blog! I think I am going to try and lose him at the next big event. I am sure Mum won’t notice her mouse missing from the back seat on the way home?

So that’s about it for July’s blog. Don’t forget to visit our website so you can find out where and when you can come and meet me, it should be on the top of your “to do” list for the summer!

Wow, hasn’t it been a great month! I have been out and about at lots of events since I last spoke to you and it has been great to meet up with so many new people. Mum and Dad took us all along (and by us of course I mean me, George and that fruit loop, Trevor) to Pets at Home in Inverness on 29th May. It was pouring with rain and I didn’t get out much, but Mum said it was good fun (don’t see how when I wasn’t out much!) and they all raised over £500!

More recently we headed off to the Festival of Historic Transport at Lathalmond near Dunfermline. It was a great weekend of fun and games! We got to stay two nights camping and got lots of walks with our boxer friends Isla, Chloe, Cally and Talla, who were camping with their Mums and Dads too.

We had a stall at the event and some posh cars to show off, as well as good old Brian the Snail who came along too! He gets lots of attention, sometimes more than I do, which isn’t much fun at all! How can a car be more cute than a gorgeous boxer girlie like me!

Over £150 was raised on the day, so it was all good.

While we were at the event, it was too hot and busy for us to get out much and poor George got all upset and over heated. It happens so quickly, but luckily Mum was with us and was able to give George a shower to cool him down. I was a bit worried about the big lump for a while, but Mum soon got him sorted and happy again.

Mum said that it is so important for people to understand just how hot us doggies can get with all this lovely weather. She said that some silly people leave their dogs in cars with no open windows and they die! Why would anyone want to leave their dog in a hot car, it just doesn’t make sense and I am hoping that some of you reading this will tell everyone you know, not to do it. Mum also says that dogs can die of heatstroke if they are not cared for quickly, so perhaps I should give you lots of good ideas on how to look after your dogs in this hot weather. If your dog starts panting a lot and appears to be dazed and lethargic with pale gums, the most important thing to do is to cool him/her down, carefully. Cool, wet flannels on the inner thighs and stomach are the best areas and to soak the paws too. It is best to give a nice cool shower or use a hose but what ever you do, DO NOT submerse them fully in water, or use ice cold water as this can cool them down too quickly and cause hypothermia! Gentle cooling is essential and keep them standing so their blood can keep circulating. You could stand them in a pool up to their ankles and then gently pour the water over their back. Small drinks of water, but don’t allow them to gulp too much down at once, just in case it causes bloat.

Me, George and Trevor have been enjoying lots of fun, sunny days in the garden, but Mum always keeps a close eye on us to make sure we don’t overdo it. Sometimes she is really boring and makes us come in when I want to keep playing outside, but I know she is doing it because she loves me.

Right, well I am off to find Trevor and make sure he is behaving. He has been a bit naughty recently and poor Dad has to keep hunting down all the tools that he has stolen and hidden in the garden. It’s great fun to watch and even better fun knowing it’s not me getting into trouble! But then why would I, we all know I am perfect ………….

Seems spring cleaning can also mean getting rid of your old boxer! Mum says she is busier than ever, but then she is always saying that! Mind you, she has been running around with the phone a lot these days, so I guess I had better believe her!

I did manage to make her take me out for a day earlier this month and we headed off to the Forres Theme Day. Mum took “Brian” her new S-Cargo van and she got a lot of attention! I stayed around the snail for a little while, but to be honest, it was cramping my style, so I went back and sat with George in the shade. Mum kept Trevor with her and he got lots of attention too! Lots of people wanted to come and see him because he was white, don’t know why though, he is hardly special! In fact, he is never really white at home because he gets in to too much trouble! He is normally black from oil or red from strawberries! Honestly, you would never get me behaving in such a way! Anyway, lots of people were asking lots of questions and Auntie Karen came along with Sasha and Tizzy too, so all three of them were showing off how wonderful boxers are, while I looked after Dad.

Mum brought lots of people over to see me with Dad and someone from the show even came to take our photograph. I think they should have waited until I was facing the camera though, they didnt get my best side! Everyone was really pleased to meet me (not Trevor!) and Mum said that we raised £140 on the day, just by me being gorgeous!

It’s a good job that we raised those extra few pounds as Mum was telling me about poor Marley who has to have his leg amputated. Mum said that he fractured is femathing when he was little and now has to have it taken off, because he is in pain and can’t use it. I hope his operation is ok. Mum said that his story is on the website and that he will have a blog too, to talk about his surgery. I don’t know if I want another boxer having a blog on MY website, but seeing as Marley is going through so much, I suppose I can let him.

Mum said that she is hoping lots of people will help and give more money for Marley’s operation because we don’t have a lot spare. I wish I could help get some of these other poor boxers a home, because then we wouldn’t have to worry about all those expensive kennelling bills, but Mum says no-one wants the older boxers. I think that’s silly! Auntie Karen says her Sasha is a big energetic lump and she is 6 1/2. I agree with her, Sasha has outrun me chasing for sticks ( but that’s because I wasn’t trying very hard and wanted to let her win-shhhh).

Right, I have just seen Trevor sneak on to the worktop and grab the strawberries, so I am off for a snack! Save some for me Trevor!!!

Well April is a very special month for me, but I will tell you more about that later. I am leaving my news until the end because I always deserve to be the finale!

Firstly, I need to tell you about our Vet School Rodeo event for 2010. All the volunteers worked really hard collecting stuff and organising everything right up to the day and then lots went along on the day to help out. I wanted to go, so everyone could see how wonderful I was, but Mum says it’s a long way to go and that I can go to some different events in the summer – she has promised me! Anyway, Mum said that lots of people came along to help, as well as lots of other Boxer Welfare Scotland boxers who came along to say hello. Mum says it’s always really good to see how they are doing and see their photos. I always think I am the most important boxer to her, but no not really, all her BWS boxers are just as important! Everyone managed to raise just over £500 on the day and someone kindly gave a donation of £200, all of which goes back into helping other boxers get new homes too. I want to say thank you, on behalf of all the other boxers!

Ok, back to me! This is my blog after all! Anyway, I was saying that April is an important month for me – well I shall explain. April is my Gotcha Day and each year I look back on where I came from and thank my lucky stars that I was saved by Boxer Welfare Scotland

This is how I looked when I first came to BWS. I had been living in a cage for the first two years of my life and my paws were covered in my own wee. I couldn’t move much and I wasn’t getting fed properly. I was sooo skinny, I can’t believe I ever looked like that!

I am so lucky that Boxer Welfare Scotland came along and helped me and that’s why I work so hard with my Mum to help other boxers get new homes. Mum says that she loves me lots even though I am a grumpy old ****! How shocking that one should be called something like that, but she’s right, I had such a hard time that sometimes I forget who I am and where I am and can be a little madam. But I am always sorry.

Now I have a wonderful life with George and Trevor who I love to bits, but don’t tell them I said that, I don’t want them to think I am going soft. Trevor is growing on me as well as sleeping on me regularly! Obviously I have put on enough weight now to be used as a cushion – the cheek of him! I make sure I keep everyone on their toes and the boys know I am the boss, but I think they love me too really. Mum says I am lucky, but I think she is the lucky one to have me! So I want to say a personal thank you to everyone who volunteers for BWS and gives up their time to help raise funds, so more boxers can be as happy as me. Mum works hard keeping the rescue running, but without the volunteers’ hard work too, we would have a lot less money.

Wow, that was a little deep and meaningful for me? Think I had better go and eat a cat to feel normal again. Smokey, where are youuuuuuuuu?
