Moving to a new home

Everyone knows how stressful it can be moving home and for your dog this can be quite a traumatic time. There will be all the buzz of actually moving & it can take up to a month & longer for him/her to get use to their new territory nevermind all the strange new smells going about.

Before moving day

  • It's always best to leave packing his/hers bedding and toys to last so they can still feel comforted with their familiar belongings. Try and not lauder their bedding/jumpers for a couple of weeks after the move.
  • Ask your vet about obtaining a DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) plug-in device to use before, during and after moving.
  • Be prepared & get a tag made with your name, new phone number (address too if you like) so that it is ready to put onto his collar for the day of the move. If he/she does escapes during the move or immediately after, this will increase his chances of getting back to you. Also notify your dog's microchip database of your new address.

After the move

  • Put a DAP plug in the closest plug to where you dogs will spend most of his/hers time
  • Try and stick as much to your normal routine as possible.
  • Don't overly stroke or comfort your dog. Heightened attention could actually cause more problems.
  • Check that your garden is secure
