My Rescue Babe by BWS Adopters

Adopting a rescue boxer can be a big step and takes a lot of time and consideration, but often it is the best thing that people say they have done.

Listed below are some quotes sent to us by Boxer Welfare Scotland adopters, to let others know how rescuing a boxer has changed their lives!

Digger - Rehomed 2008
They say "whats for you, wont go by you"!  For two years I hummed and haughed about adopting another boxer to give my girl Millie 4 a companion.  I worried slightly that Millie wouldnt allow another dog into our home as it had been all hers since she was 8 weeks old.  Well, in November 2008 BWS put out a special appeal for Digger.  After reading his story I knew that he was the dog that I had been waiting for.  I knew in my heart that our home was the right home for him to be adopted into.  We took Millie to meet him and they both hit it off from the start. Before I knew it he was in the back of the car heading home.

Since November 08 we have learned sooooooo much from Digger.  He is a gentle giant who loves his big sister although he steals all the toys  My back garden resembles a churned field  but we dont care, all we care about is our two happy content babes.  I couldnt have asked for a better boy to come and join us.  He is the most loving dog you will meet, has great character and keeps us on our toes at all times. Thank you BWS for giving me my wee angel, I love him to bits. God forbid, but If any of my babes went to the bridge, I would go to BWS and adopt again rather than go through all the puppy stages etc.

Liz, Billy, Kirsty, Ross and of course big sis Millie

Cash - Rehomed 2008
Cash came into our lives on a wet October day - with lovely rainbows following us on the car journey home.

That must have been a sign that our beautiful rescue boy was here to bring " a huge array of colours " into our lives.

He's a wonderful, loving, very cheeky boy and a true best friend to our other boxer Rocco - they're inseperable.

We have such fun training him and endless giggles at his amazing personality and the mischief they both get up to.

Thank you Boxer Welfare Scotland for our wonderful boy.

His previous family's loss was most truly our gain. Its hard to remember life without him.

TJ and Rojo - Rehomed 2008
For a long time we have wanted to have a dog in our lives, but with having 3 young children we knew we didn't have enough time to look after a dog properly. Time passes and kids grow up though.. as they do, it left us with more time for ourselves and we wanted to change our day to day routines, it was then that we knew we had the time to give a dog the care it deserves and contacted Boxer Welfare Scotland and got the adoption process underway.

It wasn't long before we knew our lives were going to change.

We now have two... yes two.. wonderfull Boxers in our lives, TJ and Rojo have brought us so much fun since they arrived, the house is lively again, Rojo is always ready with her ball while TJ is ready for a game of tug o war with his toys.

Both TJ and Rojo settled in well from day one, they were both contented with their new surroundings and it didn't take them long to find the places in the house they liked to lie down in. As time passed they got more and more settled and we got to know all their little quirks, what they liked doing. what their favourite treats etc were, We can honestly say that having these two loving and beautifull Boxers in our lives is the most rewarding thing we have ever done... and it's all down to the wonderfull people at Boxer Welfare Scotland.

Tasha - Rehomed 2009
What does Tasha mean to me? what doesn't she mean to me!

My life without Tasha is inconceivable, she is everything.

Boxers are like no other breed I know, they ask for very little but give everything and more back in return.

Adopting Tasha was one of the best decisions I have ever made if you think you could give a loving home to a BWS babe whether a bouncy pup or a golden oldie, I promise you will never regret the decision to open you life upto the world of Boxers!

Lynch Brood - Rehomed 2005 - 2011
Well our first was our jack who we got in december 05 he weighed 18kgs and had been living on pototatoe peelings, he had been taken in by a pet rescue near glenrothes, and we heard about him through Lorraine, a lady had taken him from the pound as she couldnt bare to leave him there, we arranged with this lady to meet her just out side perth, dave had been driving all day in the lorry and we drove down and picked him up it was another three hour drive there and back and we got back home about midnight.

He was so skinny you could count every bone in his body he had a lump between his eyes which was a scar of some sort but was a hard lump, his coat was dull and life less and he had the start of demdectic mange, and was entire, he was a nervous wreck, and suffered from eplectic fits, which seem to get triggered when he was panicing, and was like a constant shadow like having him joined to your leg, our vets will never forget the state he was in and was surprised he was the same dog one month later,he has quite a few hang ups like hands being waved, gloves he will take your hands of even now if you wave around his face, we have been lucky that we dont have any small children, as we would have had a few problems, hes fine with other dogs not good with people though, until he gets to trust you.

We would do it all again for him and any other boxer we could help, we then went on to take Tyler who i miss really bad at the moment, Talla who is just a sweet heart and loves every one and every thing, dougal who we only had for six months, cooper who we only had for eight weeks, he wasnt through boxer welfare, brooke whos another wee angel, and adores dave to bits, and as you know we are fostering zac and corra, and they can stay with us for as long as it takes for them to find a permanate caring loving home, for the rest of thair lives.

If any thing should happen to Dave and i these dogs would be well looked after by our family, and well provided for, in every way. sorry for the morbid bit

Our house is one large dog kennel, and thats how we like it, xxxxx

Taz and Rosie - Rehomed 2005 & 2007
After losing a much loved Boxer we were both heart broken and after 5 years with no dog we decided it was time to open our hearts to another boxer.

That's where BWS came in with a gorgeous 2 year old brindle boy called Taz we both fell in love with him immediately and after 2 years on his own we then went back and picked up 10 months old girl called Rosie they give us so much love and so many laughs that we would be lost without them and it's all thanks to BWS

Charlie - Rehomed 2008
On Friday the 13th it will be a whole Year since you let me go and live with my brand new family and I thought it would be good to tell how Im getting on. Well, my brother Del and I get along really really well and he lets me play with his toys but not his sticks. My Mum and Dad love me to bits and I must be a good boy because I dont get shouted at or smacked at all. My back legs are really really strong now and I can almost catch Del when he runs off. I am not frightened of men anymore and I sleep all night without waking up crying in the middle of the night. I couldnt believe how scared I was when I first saw a bus and a truck and a rubbish lorry. I used to wee in the house but Del soon taught me to wait until we go outside and how to ask Mum to let me out. I still get excited when I see pals I can play with, but my ears are beginning to hear my name being called.

Anyway Nana before you helped me I wouldnt complain about my life, but because of you I am so so happy and want to thank you for giving me a chance to have what I have always dreamed of having.. a home where I am loved, cared for and get to be myself. I will never forget you Nana .

Lots of Hugs n Kisses from Charlie xxx

Bonnie - Rehomed 2008
We looked on Bonnie as an angel sent from heaven, she is just such a sweet little girl with a lovely nature.

I often sit and watch her when she's sleeping and think to myself, how on earth could anybody give her up, I know we couldn't part with her now.

She gives us so much love and makes us smile such a lot but as the saying goes, they only give back to you what you give to them, and she definately gets all the love in the world from us, we are so lucky to have her and it wouldn't have happened if it hadn't been for BWS

Floyd - Rehomed 2008
My beautiful bouncin' brindle boy Floyd came to live with us on the 24th February 2008, he brought love and laughter into our home.  He keeps our old girlie Bubbles on her toes mostly by tormenting the life out of her. Bubbles and Floyd are the light of all our lives, they make us happy when we are sad, they always have a cheery welcome when we've been out but mostly they give us love and hugs and lots of slobers and nothing, but nothing compares to the kisses two rescued boxers give to their family.

Fortunately Floyd came to BWS a healthy, happy boy, he had been well looked after and loved.  Floyd is a cheeky boxer who thinks it's OK to paw and jump on every dog he see's but he only wants to play!  He loves to sit on the arm of the sofa and look out of the window and he gives everyone that passes a loud woof woof, which set's Bubbles off too, then she joins in.  He's a clever boy and he can open every door, cupboard and drawer in our house, he can also open the drive gates, you've got to have eyes in the back of your head, he's cheeky and so funny and we all love and adore him.  Thank you BWS for our special boy.

Stella- Rehomed 2009
On Saturday 4th April 09 the newest additon to the family came to stay with us, Stella.  We had been thinking about getting another boxer for a while, we have always had boxers.  My youngest son was 6 and we felt it was unfair for him not to have grown up with a boxer as the other two boys had.  Boxers are so wonderful with kids.

I had heard of BWS through a friend, and after a lot of discussion we decided to go ahead and apply to adopt.  I was surprised at how quickly we heard back from them to say they had found the perfect dog for us.  I could barely wait until the Saturday to meet her.  We drove up to the kennels and she was brought out to meet us, it was love at first sight.  She was a little underweight and was a bit nervous.  We brought her home and I cried most of the way home, telling her she was a lovely lucky girlie and we would love her so much.

When she first came home she was unsure about everything and didn't know how to play at all.  All the love, patience and attention we have given her she has given back to us.  Stella is the most wonderful little boxer, our little star.

Our wish is that every boxer finds a happy forever home and maybe someday soon we will find a special sister for Stella.

Bubba - Rehomed 2009
Bubba initially came to us a BWS foster, as his first family had to reluctantly give him up.
Stuart and I had prepared ourselves for the possibility of keeping Bubbs a bit longer than normal due to him being on special appeals because of his grade 3-4 heart murmur. However, it was clear after only several weeks that we were going to adopt Bubba and he was going stay with us and be our special boy.

In January 09, we adopted our first BWS boxer, Tasha. Compared to Bubbs, Tash wasn't as fortunate to have a loving family whilst growing up. In her three short years of life she had become a fearful wee soul that just didn't know who to trust or who to call Mum and Dad.  With a lot of hard work (still continuing) she has grown into a confident, relaxed and good natured girl who Stuart and I adore.  Over the summertime, Tasha's special friend Kingston  stayed with us for a few weeks.  Seeing the two of them  playing, sleeping and cuddling up together  reinforced the idea at some point we would adopt another BWS babe for Tash to live out the rest of her life with.

We are both so pleased that Bubba is now Tasha's brother and  her best friend. He is so special to us.  Bubbs is a handsome, loveable, laid back, cheeky and utterly adorable boy who has brought so much joy to our house.  Moreover, his boundless energy and fun has brought my wee girl to life.  The pair of them are so good together, it is like they were made for each other . Bubba's heart condition is something we have always got to monitor but until he shows us any signs of concerns we will continue to treat him exactly the same as Tash.

Thank you to everyone at BWS for all their dedicated hard work. Without you all I wouldn't be sitting here writing about Tash and Bubbs feeling like I am the luckiest and proudest Mum ever.

Charlie - Rehomed 2009
When we lost our beloved 12 year old rescue girl Sophie we were heartbroken, especially our 4 year old boxer Dino, for him his world had changed forever and when Sophie left us so did our happy, bouncy, fun loving boy.  We started taking him for the monthly walks at The Falkirk Wheel, which helped him so much, and us, seeing him running round like a boxer should but also reinforced that he needed a constant boxer companion. I’ll never forget the day we got the call about wee Charlie or the moment on a wet and windy day we first saw her trotting down the path with her foster mum.  She has made such a difference to all our lives. The house feels vibrant and alive once again. She makes us smile and laugh everyday whether it be the trail of toys all through the house, finding her tail sticking out from under the bed or coming back to the car to two beautiful boxer faces peering through the window. For Dino she is everything, his constant companion and playmate, his wonderful boxer personality has returned and it brings tears to my eyes seeing them charging round the garden, playing and having an absolute ball.

Living with a  dog is not difficult. You give them food, shelter, training, exercise, medical attention and love. Living with a boxer is just the same although a sense of humour helps! Living with a rescue boxer may require a little more patience, diligent training and TLC but for a dog which may have every reason to be distrustful of us humans they will forgive previous misdemeanours and embrace their new life wholeheartedly. When you sit down in the evening after a long day with your boxer by your side on the sofa, knowing there’s nowhere else in the world your boxer wants to be right now but with you, it’s a wonderful feeling.

Love your boxer and it will be returned tenfold, they are quite simply the best.

Toby - Rehomed 2010
Everyone seems to want puppies or young dogs - we discussed it and agreed that we would start with an older dog - around perhaps 4-6 years old who wouldn’t necessarily put all the demands on you that a puppy or young dog does. We were offered Toby - who was 7 1/2 - a little older than what we had perhaps anticipated - but he is so very young and playful with lots of energy when he gets his walks. He is the most loving, adorable dog - he is a valued addition to our family. He came fully housetrained - and even gets annoyed with us if we stay up too late by taking himself off the bed when he is tired out. He loves long walks and most of all catching his Frisbee mid-air in the park. He is obedient, loving, fun and the new baby of the house. We had a few minor health concerns when we got him but have managed to get to grips with these (a previous sporting injury playing football in his younger days!!) and a little eye irritation - all in hand now. I would recommend thinking things through carefully and not just automatically looking to get a "young" dog. I had to convince my husband that it would be an easier transition for us having a more mature settled dog - Toby is beyond our expectations and we are so proud of him. Most people think he is younger than his years - doesn’t have a grey hair on his head.....unlike us.

Adopting Toby has exceeded our expectations......to the point, in time to come, we may add a further addition to the family.......

Spice - Rehomed 2007
I was so lucky to have the honour of adopting this handsome old boy. He came into our home to join my 2 other boxers Kira and Starr who at the time were 2 1/2 and full of nonesense. Spice came to me with a lot of baggage from his previous home, but under the circumstanses he coped very well. He has calmed down the other 2 by being the dominate male, but he is the gentle giant.

He is my constant companion and no matter where I am in the house or garden you will find Spice lying at my feet. Whem I go out to work or to do some shopping I have been told that he sits and pines for me and when I come home he "jumps like Tiggr" on all fours until I come through the door. When I answer the door, he always has to push himself infront of me so when I open the door the first one there is Spice and visitors take a step back. He is a very quiet dog and gets on well with other dogs and they all come over and lick his muzzle.

I have never been so lucky to have a dog like him and I will love him forever. He is my protector, and my best friend.
