CHANCE'S SPECIAL APPEAL
This handsome chap went off to his new home in October 2007 and joined his new best friend Oscar. They are now inseperable.
Poor Chance has had a bit of a rough time of it. Firstly he had a lot of weight to lose as he weighed in at a rather unhealthy 50kgs!. , but he has worked very hard and is now a much healthier 32kgs (although is vet still thinks he needs to lose a little more)
As you can see from his other photos though, he has now lost a lot of weight and is looking very healthy indeed, infact he has worked very hard and is now a much healthier 32kgs (although is vet still thinks he needs to lose a little more)
So all looks good for Chance, apart from one thing ..............................
Chance has a very bad skin condition.

Chance's new Mum and Dad did all the right things. As soon as they got him home, they got him insured and took him along to the vets. Unfortunately, as his skin condition was pre-existing, they are unable to claim for any of Chance's drugs and treatment through their insurance. So, they have asked Boxer Welfare Scotland if we could help out.
Rather than just treating Chance's skin, his vet would like to carry out some blood tests to see if they can find out exactly what is causing his problems. The hope is that, if they can find out why it is happening, they can help prevent it and perhaps even cure it.
At the moment, Chance is having to take some very expensive drugs and the blood tests are going to cost quite a bit. As well as that, there is Chance's on going treatment to help keep him comfortable.
Update - 15th Feb 08
Poor Chance is really going through the mill right now. Today he was tested for Cushings Disease as he is showing a lot of the symptons including excessive urinating and drinking, a swollen belly and weight gain. Also, on top of all of that, poor Chance has had two fits this week. The results should be through in a week or so, so hopefully his poor Mum and Dad will get some answers and they can get the right treatment for him. They want us to know that, during the day, Chance is a very happy easy going boy and still loves his fuss and attention.
Update on blood tests: Chance's blood tests all came back normal (apart from a housemite allergy which is fairly common in dogs) and he also had tests to check his heart, kidneys and liver etc - they were all normal too. This means that they don't know what is causing his horrific skin condition, so he is going to have to remain on the medication he is on for the rest of his life, none of which is able to be covered by insurance.
Update 24th February
Thankfully, Chance's blood tests have come back negative for Cushings Disease, but unfortunately that does mean his poor Mum and Dad are no nearer getting an answer or a cure for his health problems
Updated 16th March 08
Chance is still having regular visits to the vet! Although is Cushings Disease test came back negative, his symptons still remain, so his vets are planning on carrying out some more tests soon. His skin is still really uncomfortable for him and is getting worse, but he cannot take his tablets until all his tests are done. Poor wee Chance.

Any donation, no matter how small, will be welcome as the rescue does not have unlimited funds! Thank you to all those who have already donated - your kindness means a lot to us and Chance's family.
Update 17th April
Well it's not good news. Sadly Chance's second blood tests came back as positive for Cushings disease. His vet is confident that they can get the condition under control with medication but it might mean that he can't take his skin medication at the same time. Chance is back to the vet on 18th April for a review and another blood test to see how effective his medication has been. Sadly his vet also thinks there are still underlying conditions that they haven't been able to assess yet.
Update - 19th May 2008
Poor Chance is still struggling with his Cushing's Disease and skin problems. As you can see from these photos, his skin has worsened over the last few months, despite regular treatment.
Unfortunately, it appears that the insurance company are refusing to pay for Chance's treatment for his Cushing's disease, so Boxer Welfare Scotland have said we will pay all his bills. Of course, this does put a huge strain on the rescue's finances, and we would appreciate any support we can get.
Chance loves life, during the day he is happy to play with his buddy Oscar and just acts like a normal every day boxer. His skin doesn't really irritate him and he is living a happy life. The treatment for his Cushing's has also helped him with some other symptons he was suffering from.

Good news!!! The insurance company are paying for Chance's Cushings medication!! Sadly though, we cannot get cover for his skin problems, so we are still paying the bills for that.
Chance has improved considerably and the Cushings medication is making a huge difference to him. He has stopped choking in the night and no longer wees in the house either. His skin is improving and he is loving life!!
Please continue to help us support Chance.
Thank you to all those who have already donated - your kindness means a lot to us and Chance's family.
