How to Adopt from Boxer Welfare Scotland
Boxer Welfare Scotland follows a strict but fair rehoming procedure that every applicant will have to go through before they are able to adopt a boxer from us. These procedures are in place to make sure that our rescue boxers go to the best homes for them. Please remember that we are all volunteers and do not fill in an adoption application form unless you are serious at about adopting from us. With little resources and over worked volunteers, we have little time to waste.
- Fill out an adoption application form. This does not commit you to adopting from us, but it gives us the information we need to start the process. Once you fill in application form you will receive an acknowledgement email - if you do not receive this email within 24 hours, please contact us. Please do not fill in this form until you are ready to adopt as the whole process can take as little as one week.
- If we feel you meet our main criteria, Lorraine or Karen will phone you to discuss your application and, if applicable, a home check will then be arranged.
- You will be home checked by a Boxer Welfare Scotland volunteer. They will contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time and date.
- Following your home check, you will be contacted by Lorraine or Karen to let you know the outcome.
- If you are successful, we will then match you up with a boxer that suits your requirements, but also matches your lifestyle and environment. We DO NOT match on colour or whether or not the boxer has a tail, but we will take into consideration sex and age group. We feel it is vital that we place the boxer that best fits in with your homelife, rather than the one that looks the nicest!
- Once you have been matched with a boxer, you will be invited to visit him/her at their kennels. If you have another resident dog, that will need to go with you so they can be introduced. A volunteer will contact you to arrange a suitably convenient time and date to visit the kennels, but this should be WITHIN ONE WEEK of your match being made.
- All the main members of the family and main carers should go to meet the dog, as well as any resident dog(s). You will be expected to take the dog(s) out for a walk and spend some time at the kennels, getting to know him/her. If all goes well and we feel it is a good match, you will take the dog home with you that day. The £250 adoption fee is payable, in cash, at the time of adoption and the Terms of Adoption will need to be signed.
We do not work on a "try before you buy" basis. A lot of careful thought goes into matching the dogs and, if all goes well, we would expect a successful adoption to take place. Obviously, there are times when things go wrong later on, these are dogs after all. We would expect the new adopter to do everything to try and make things work out, but if they don't, the dog will be returned to us.
