Support from Rugby Star, Jim Hamilton

Standing at an impressive 6ft 8", "Big Jim" Hamilton plays Lock for Edinburgh Rugby and has also earnt 23 caps playing for Scotland. He earnt his first cap in November 2006 and was Scotland's 1,000th capped player. His first start for Scotland was in the Twickenham match against England on the opening day of the 2007 RBS Six Nations Championship, he then went on to play in four of the five Scotland matches in the Championship. |
Having previously played for Leciester Tigers, Jim moved north to join Edinburgh Rugby in the summer of 2008. Jim qualifies to play for Scotland through his Glasgow-born father, who served for 24 years in the Queen’s Own Highlanders. In the summer of 2010, Jim moved south to play for Gloucester, but continues to play for Scotland. Jim has played in the Six Nations in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010, as well as representing Scotland at the Rugby World Cup in 2007. He was also chosen to play in the Barbarians’ squad in the Murrayfield match against Scotland in May 2006. More recently, Jim scored the only try in the historic series win against Argentina in June 2010. |
A proud boxer owner himself, Jim is keen to help Boxer Welfare Scotland with fundraising and appearances and has already donated £300 from the sale of his memorabilia through his website.
Here is what Jim has to say about boxers and Boxer Welfare Scotland:-
I was approached by BWS to help and promote their charity. I feel honoured and humbled to be in a position where I can help and hopefully raise awareness for a cause that is close to my heart.
I have always grown up with dogs and seen the joy they bring to your life. I couldn't imagine life any other way! I got my boxer, Bruce, 2 years ago and ever since that day, he has always been a huge part of my family. He always brings a smile to my face, even after a long hard day. Every day is a different adventure for him, which he lives with constant loyalty and affection that only a boxer could give. His face says a 1000 words, with his ever changing expressions.
I have seen first hand the hard work and commitment the people at BWS do. Every case is unique and different and has its different challenges. Luckily BWS have their hard working volunteers who are there to help rehome some of the unfortunate boxers who need a loving family. I know the hard work will continue at BWS and the boxers will touch the heart of those privileged to have them in their lives, just like I and so many others have had.
A quote that I feel underlines my statement "No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich"
