SPECIAL APPEAL FOR KAI

Updated 17th April 08

Meet the most handsome, gentle and loving, Kai. Kai needed a new home and Boxer Welfare Scotland were determined to find him one. Here is his story ........

Kai

Poor Kai had been abandoned at a pound in Ireland and was due to be put to sleep. Boxer Welfare was contacted regarding his situation and we agreed to take him in. After spending a few days in foster in Eire and a long journey to Belfast and on to Scotland, Kai arrived at his new foster home with Boxer Welfare Scotland.

Kai Kai

Poor wee Kai has cardiomyopathy, something that you can read more about on our health page Due to the severity of Kai's condition, his is severely life limited and the vets don't think he will make it past four years old. Kai is only 11 months old.

Kai already has a love of life and appears to be well aware of his limitations with regard to exercise. He sits down when he is tired and rests when he has had enough. He is currently enjoying life with his two new best friends, Kiera and Robbie, who always help their Mum and Dad look after their foster buddies.

We need a very special home and family for this little boy, someone who can take him on, understanding his limited future, but are able, and willing, to give him all the love and fun he deserves for the time he has left.

Kai

Kai now has a very special new Mum and Dad to look after him as well as four new doggy pals to play with. We want to thank his new Mum and Dad and look forward to hearing how he is getting on. We are certain he will get VERY spoilt!

Kai visited a cardiologist today and sadly it is not good news. Here is a summary of his news, from his Mum

We are just back from the Vet Hosp with Kai, I still have a big lump in my throat, the wee man's problems are more serious than we had thought. Three out of four heart valves are affected resulting in his heart working inefficiently, he has abdominal fliud and fluid in his lungs too. The vet (who thought he was a great wee fellow) has said that due to the complex lesion and heart failure at such a young age he is likely to succumb to refractory heart failure within the next 12 months. I found that last sentence hard to type.  The vet as well as our selves are hoping that she is proved wrong.  He is to be allowed to play and exercise as much as he is able, no hill walking though !!! His medication has been changed and increased and there is still some leeway to increase the dose as necessary. He will get plenty of love and cuddles from us and given every chance to enjoy how ever long he has. Thank you all for your kind thoughts
