Who We Are and What We Do
Boxer Welfare Scotland was founded in January 2005 and we received our charity status as a boxer rescue on 3rd July 2005. Since then we have rescued and rehomed over 350 boxers through our adoption processes. We are here to rescue and care for all boxers who need our help in Scotland and to help them find a way to their new adopted families in the new forever homes they deserve.
Our founder, Lorraine Cumming, the other 3 Trustees and their dedicated team of volunteers commit a lot of their time, energy and love to helping rescue boxers in need across Scotland. Lorraine is a Member of the Institute of Animal Care and Education (M.I.A.C.E) and is both experienced and qualified in animal behaviour, psychology and training.
BWS does not have a 'centre' instead we use trusted kennels and in some special cases we have fantastic foster homes for our Boxers to stay in until we find them their forever homes. Compared to other more publically aware dog charities we are quite small in comparison, therefore we don't have 'staff or a call centre' just some dedicated volunteers who process the applications and liaise with families. Due to our size all adoption enquiries must submit a Adoption Application Form which primarily gives us the foundations to discuss a suitable Boxer for you. However, if you would prefer to speak to someone before submitting an application please feel free to call us for a chat. Currently we have 4 friendly volunteers who can be reached on 01224 515101.
Boxer Welfare Scotland hopes to promote responsible dog ownership. We also offer guidance and advice to anyone seeking a little bit of help and reassurance. We ensure that all our dogs are vaccinated, seen by a vet and micro-chipped before re-homing. We also make sure that all our rehomed Boxers are neutered as soon as possible once they are in their new home, BWS covers this cost. BWS does not discriminate on the age, medical condition, behaviour or history of a Boxer, we are here to support all our dogs and find them the best possible home and family to spend the rest of their lives with. In order for us to find the perfect home one of our trusted volunteers will carry out a homecheck and ask some relevant questions. By no means are they there to judge, we simply need to find your perfect Boxer. Once we have matched you with a suitable Boxer we will keep in contact with you through the settling in stage and one of our volunteers will carry out a follow up check to assess how your dog has settled in at a time that suits you.
If you adopt one of our babes you are a friend of BWS for life!
