February’s Valentine Joy

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

February got off to a very good start for us! My Mum always says that she remembers when it was just her helping boxers, a long time ago and she is always so amazed when Boxer Welfare Scotland gets some special attention.

Our special attention this time came in the form of a television appearance on 2nd February! In December, STV’s The Hour went along to our kennels in Edinburgh and filmed Lorraine, Kelly and Shona with some of the poor boxer babes who were looking for homes.  Then in February Kelly and Shona were on the telly!!!  They think they are famous and special now, but of course they aren’t as special as me, no-one can be better than me! If you didn’t get to see them you can find a link on the homepage of this website.  Mum thought it was just wonderful to see BWS on the telly and she cried alot – all day!!

Also in February there was a coffee morning organised by Carrie Hogg and her Mum, Mary.  They did a fantastic job and lots of volunteers baked cakes and goodies and made things for the day.  They raised £1, 075 in total, can you believe that.  The lovely ladies sent up a box of goodies for Mum.  Auntie Karen phoned to see what she had in her box and it turns out that Mum ate all the doggie treats that were sent up for me (and George and Trevor I suppose)! Can you believe the cheek of it, it’s bad enough that I have others stealing my limelight and now my own Mum is eating my special homebakes! I was not impressed!! Mum said they tasted lovely, but I wasn’t listening.

We have another big fundraising night this weekend in Falkirk.  There is going to be dancing, music and raffles.  I was expecting to make an appearance, but it is past my bedtime, so I can’t go, but I am looking forward to visiting people soon.  So, if you see a BWS event advertised, try and go because you may be lucky enough to meet me!

Right, there is snow in the garden and that wee whipper snapper, Trevor wants to play out again, so I am off out for a charge around.

Five Minutes is Not Enough

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Well, what can I say? I am now a television star, and about time too, although five minutes is just not enough!

bbc2309For those very few of you that may have been too busy to see my moment in the spotlight, I shall explain.  Mum said we were running very short of money and that we needed to do something to help people find out about us. Thankfully, after some nice emails, the BBC contacted us and said they wanted to put me on the television.  Of course I agreed immediately and a nice man with a camera came round and did some filming. I spent a lovely afternoon running around the garden while I was filmed. I even let George get some camera time too.  If you did miss it (and I can’t see why you would) here is the link to the webpage. Mum says we still need lots of money, so if you think I am wonderful, which I am, and want to help more boxers like me, please donate!

So, after the excitement of being on the telly, I was then introduced to a jimhamiltonScotland rugby player – well he was introduced to me anyway! Jim Hamilton plays for Scotland and Edinburgh and very kindly came along to Pentland Pets at Home to help raise some money.  He was so excited and happy about finally meeting me that he wants to come and draw our Prize Draw raffle, just so he can see me again!  So if anyone missed him, he will be with me at Pets at Home in Aberdeen on 5th December!

I feel my moment of fame has finally come and more people are going to be able to see what a gorgeous girl I am.  Of course, I am one of the lucky ones and Mum tells me all the time about all the other boxers who need homes.  We always need money and recently all our wonderful volunteers have been working really really hard and have managed to raise a fantastic £3,000 by giving up their time for microchipping days and car boot sales.  It is just amazing and I know just how important this money is, because I know that if it wasn’t for my Mum and Boxer Welfare Scotland, I would probably still be living in a crate, so I say a big thank you from me and all the other boxers you help.

Well, five minutes really isn’t enough for someone as fabulous as me, so I am off to call my agent and get something else lined up! Who knows where and when you will see me next!

Boxers, cars and lots of fun ….

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

What an exciting weekend I have just had!  We had so much fun at the Festival of Historic Transport at Lathalmond and raised over £300!

allatfestivalOff we went in our camper van and yes, I let George and Millie come to.  Apparently people like to see them as well, but I don’t see why when I am there to be fussed over.  Mum and Dad arrived on the Friday and then Auntie Lorraine and Auntie Carrie came through on the Saturday.  They brought Jackson and Dudley with them too, and we all had lots of fun playing and running around together.

Of course, we boxers were perfect, but I don’t think Mum was a very good girl this festivaltime.  She is always telling me to behave and not be naughty and I always am, but as you can see, Mum, got into the party “spirit” with Auntie Lorraine and Auntie Carrie. I went to bed nice and early, so I was ready for my public on Sunday, but they all kept me awake laughing and shouting!  Goodness knows what the neighbours were thinking, I am quite mortified!  I did hear Mum shouting “Wheeee” at one point and I heard later on that she had been rolling on her back with her legs in the air?  Now if I did that, she would have given me a row for showing off and messing around.

Well at least everyone was sensible the next day and the weather was perfect.  We had lots of cars there and loads of boxers came along to play.  I had so much fun and, of course, everybody wanted to fuss and play with me.  I do try my hardest to make sure everyone gets to speak to me, but it is quite difficult to spread myself around.  I met lots of Boxer Welfare Scotland babes and Mum says I was a little angel (not like her eh!)

Hopefully we can go back next year and I can see all my friends again!

Right, I am off to eat Mum’s midge hat; what was she thinking?!

Amazing Fund Raising Event

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I was so excited when I heard we were going to the Glasgow Vet School Rodeo again this year.  This is the third year running that Boxer Welfare Scotland has been invited to come along and have a share in the proceeds.  Unfortunately Mum said we couldn’t go as it would be a very long  journey and day for us and that it would be too stressful, but she promised to bring us back some treats, so I let her go.

rodeoIt was probably a good idea I didn’t go as I would have enjoyed chasing Scooby around the field all day.  Lloyd did a fantastic job and Mum said Richard looked great in his bucking bronco outfit!  I often wonder if folk realise what my Mum will get them landed in when they volunteer for Boxer Welfare Scotland.

Apparently the whole day was a huge success and we had lots of visitors, of course most of them wanted to ask about me, but who can blame them.  Mum said they raised just over £1,100 which is just amazing!

sophieBeing serious for a moment, I have to point out that these events are mainly to help people understand exactly what Boxer Welfare Scotland does and to help find homes for boxers who need them.  I remember needing my home and wondering if anyone would ever love me how I should be loved.  I also remember feeling so happy when I knew I was staying with my Mum & Dad and George and Millie.  Even when I chew my bed, my Mum still loves me and that’s how it should be. I really hope poor Sophie can find her new home soon too as she looks so beautiful and is a very lovely boxer girl.  Poor Sophie has a bad heart so really needs a special home.

Looking at the photos though, I think it might have been a good idea for me to go along and keep an eye on Mum.

rodeo2Honestly, she says I can’t be trusted to behave in public!  Thankfully, Mum decided to wash off the paw prints and take the cowboy hat off for travelling home.  Can you image what her and Auntie Karen would have looked like on the train dressed like that – so much for giving BWS a good impression.

Right I am off to chew another bed, I think Mum has just ordered a new one for me, but  I don’t think she realises I just think they are big chewy toys!

Christmas Prize Draw

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Wow what fun I had!!  On 6th December we all met up at Pets at Home in Aberdeen to draw the raffle.

Of course I was in the store having lots of fun dragging Auntie Karen around.  She let me go where I wanted and I got to see the rabbits!  I met other doggies too and I was a good girl (of course).  George and Millie came too and I said they could come out and say hello as well, but only if they behaved (which they did).

Alison came up from the Elgin Pets at Home and did the draw for us.  It was great fun waiting for all the tickets to come out.  We also did lots of collecting on the day and everyone sold more tickets!!  Everyone said how lovely I was, which is true, but I always like hearing it.! All the tickets sold raised just over £700!

After the draw everyone went to have their lunch at Jimmy Chungs. Ayden, Andy, Dad, Karen, Rob, Natalie, Michelle, Craig, Kirsty, Christopher, Amanda, Carrie, Mum & Lorraine all had a lovely lunch.

Mum said I couldn’t come but she did say that, if I was good, I might have a treat when she came back.  I told George and Millie to be extra good as I didn’t want them being naughty and spoiling my surprise.  When Mum & Dad came back, they had a bag of fresh cooked beef for me!!  Because I am so lovely, I shared it with George and Millie and we all agreed it was delicious. I did ask Dad where it came from, but he refused to comment ……..??

It was a lovely day out and I had a lovely time being spoilt by all my Boxer Welfare Scotland friends, but while they were all busy relaxing and eating, Carrie H, Shona, Mary and Lisa were all working hard at a coffee morning in North Berwick.  They worked so hard that they managed to raise a whopping £870!  Mum as just amazed and so grateful that we have such lovely volunteers who work so hard to help us raise so much money.

Well I am off to chew on a chair now, it must be that time of day already.

The MASSIVE Money Weekend

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I am so excited!!  We had a massive fundraising weekend on 29th / 30th November and all my hard working volunteers (I say mine because they work for me really) raised over £1,300 for Boxer Welfare Scotland!  How amazing is that!!  First of all lots of people went along to ASDA in Edinburgh and did some bag packing for lots of lovely people.  Because they were so happy with their bags being packed, we got just over £500 on the day.  Wee Kelly (that’s what Mum calls her) worked very hard and organised everything on the day.

On St Andrew’s Day there was a big sponsored walk.  I was really cross because, once again, I couldn’t go on it.  Sometimes it is no fun living all the way up here!!  Perhaps I should go and stay at Auntie Carrie’s or Auntie Lorraine’s so they can take me – I am sure they would love to have me to stay over, after all I am wonderful.  Anyway, back to the walk.  Well there were two walks, one at the Falkirk Wheel and one at Cathkin Braes in Glasgow.  Between them they managed to raise just over £800!  All those lucky boxers got to have fun and party together, and they raised money for us at the same time.  What fun!

I have had my staff upload lots of photos on to the website, so you can go and have a look.  Of course I wont be in them, but they are still worth having a look at!

Well I must go now, George is playing with my favourite toy so I need to go and annoy him now!

My Trip to Elgin!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Hello everyone, sorry I haven’t written much recently.  Everyone has been really busy and Mum wont let me type my messages myself!  She said something about boxer slobber on the keyboard?  I don’t see why, I only lick the screen??!!

A few weekends ago Mum and Dad took me up to Elgin to Pets at Home again.  Boxer Welfare Scotland were doing a microchipping and information day and raised over £500!!

They all did such a wonderful job and of course I had to go along and say hello.  George and Mildred came with me, but only because I let them, they aren’t as important as me of course!!  I got to meet lots of people and everyone thought I was lovely, and I was on my best behaviour!

Everyone was very very busy and there were lots of other dogs who came in to get chipped and even some cats!!

It was all very exciting and I had a great time.  I love going to these events and seeing my friends, and of course I love all the fuss and cuddles I get from everyone!  I can’t blame them of course!

Mum said that I should say a special thank you to Kelly and Carrie because they came such a long way and poor Kelly’s car broke down.  I hope they got back ok, but at least they got to see me, so that must have made their journey worth while.

Right, am off to annoy George now, he is being a good boy again!

Missing out on all the fun!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Well it’s just not fair, I have been missing out on so much fun that everyone has been having at Boxer Welfare Scotland.

Firstly, on 27th June, loads of people and boxers went along to the Dog’s Trust Funday in Glasgow.  It’s too far for me to travel, so I have to miss out again!

Everyone at the stall

It’s too far for me, George and Millie to travel, so I have to miss out again!  Everyone had a wonderful time and they manage to raise over £400!  That’s wonderful and Mum says it is going to help us pay for some of our kennel and vet fees. I just think that they should all come and live here, but Mum says I am too grumpy!!

It looked like everyone had a lot of fun and I have enjoyed looking at the photos, I just wish Mum would let me use the mouse sometimes!!  If you want to see some of their pictures, they are on the website.

Hopefully, if I am good, I will be able to go next year.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that everyone got to meet up there, they are all having monthly boxer walks at Falkirk and Glasgow!  Can you believe it!!  You would think that as I was the mascot, that they wouldn’t hold these events without me, but obviously not.  I really really wish I could go on one of these as they look like so much fun.  All those boxer buddies to run around with.  All I have is grumpy old Millie and that lunatic George and I get into trouble if I chase him too much!

These walks are happening once a month and if you would like to join in, just pop along to our forum and join in the chat and find out when the next one is happening either at Cathkin Braes in Glasgow or the Falkirk Wheel.

Before I go, I had better let you know that my leg is now so much better. Mum had so much trouble keeping me quiet, I really don’t like being quiet you see! I like it best if I can run around the garden at top speed, but I kept making my leg bleed and had to come in again. The vet phoned Mum though and said that the lump was just a hystiocytoma. I don’t know what that was, but Mum seemed very pleased about it, so that’s good. I am back to normal now and causing as much trouble as I can though!
